Led ringverlichting wordt veel gebruikt in de macrofotografie, maar ook in de wetenschappelijke, forensische en wetenschappelijke fotografie. Dit in tegenstelling tot een gewone opzetverlichting die meer voor grotere afstanden wordt gebruikt. De macroverlichting zorgt voor de perfecte belichting van fijnere details zonder dat er schaduwen ontstaan, omdat de opname door de ring gemaakt wordt. De lichtbron bevindt zich in dit geval direct voor het object.
Bij macrofotografie wordt vaak met een kleinere diafragma gewerkt om goede scherptediepte te krijgen. Het probleem waarmee veel macrofotografen dan te maken krijgen is dat ze licht tekort komen. Dit wordt gecompenseerd met langere sluitertijden en omdat de fotograaf meestal met de camera in de hand werkt, loop hij het risico dat de foto's onscherp en bewogen zijn. Dit probleem wordt opgelost met behulp van de macroverlichting die special voor kortere afstanden ontworpen is en helemaal voorin wordt bevestigd. Met behulp van de macroverlichting zorgt men voor de optimaal belichte en scherpe details.
Verder kunnen de ringflitsers prima worden ingezet in de portretfotografie. Dankzij hun positie om de lens heen belichten deze flitser het gezicht zodanig goed, dat u met weinig tot geen schaduw te maken hebt.
